How can you tell if silicone is medical grade?

Does bacteria grow on silicone?

Due to its porous nature, bacteria do not generally form on silicone. However, if the surfaces are not properly treated or if the silicone does not have antibacterial properties bacteria can stick to the silicone. How does antibacterial silicone work?

The Stericone silicone rubber is specially formulated to fight bacteria. It helps prevent the spread of harmful germs by stopping them from growing on the surface. This keeps the silicone material hygienic.

How long does silicone take to sterilise?

Depending on your application or industry, silicone can be sterilised in a few different ways.

Steam Autoclave: Usually used in the medical industry to sterlise equipment, typically using an autoclave at 121°C for 15-20 minutes is an effective way to sterilise antibacterial grade silicone.

Boiling: Submerge the silicone in boiling water for about 5-10 minutes.
